Movie Review: A romantic comedy by filmmaker Partha Sen, Balukabela.com runs on two parallel tracks. In a bid to celebrate their first marriage anniversary, Parambrara and Locket disappear from office feeding their boss with some cock and bull story. They put up at hotel Balukabela where incidentally their boss Saswata, a reputed criminal lawyer of Calcutta High Court, drops in to take a break from his otherwise busy schedule. What follows is a hide-and-seek game. On the other hand we see a growing love-hate relationship between the four boys (essayed by Rahul, Abhiraj, Indranil and Rudranil) and the girls (played by Payel, Suchandra, Ambalika and Taniya), which forms the premise of the film.

A spark of sweet, little love story brewing between Sudipa Basu (the girls' ge

ography teacher) and Paran Bandopadhyay (the hotel owner) makes for another interesting sub plot. Despite the language barrier the way the duo tries to communicate with each other is hilarious.

Performance-wise, the youngsters disappoint big time. The girls, especially, seem too camera conscious. Parambrata and Locket as the lovey-dovey couple look their part.

Politician-actor Bratya Basu comes as a surprise package in the film. He plays an intriguing character, who wanders along the sea beach asking people how to go to Sri Lanka. Saswata's role is that of catalyst. With his mannerisms and a funny disposition the actor brings about the much-required comic relief.

Besides a few Bollywood-style latkas and jhatkas in the beginning, the film also has some stylized dance and song sequences; the songs Chhoto chhoto sapno and Aaye ghum are well choreographed. But sadly the story has nothing new to offer and the camerawork is shoddy. Balukbela.com is a mish-mash of many old Bengali and Hindi romantic comedies which makes it predictable and boring.

Parambrata-Locket episode is a shameless take on Soumitra Chatterjee-Aparna Sen starrer Chhutir Phande. While Rudranil's double-role stunt, is an equally annoying copy of Bhrantibilas or its Hindi version, Angoor.

As for the title, one wonders where exactly the 'dot com' fits in.
